Assistant Financial Controller
Role Summary:
The Assistant Financial Controller will support the Financial Controller by overseeing daily finance operations, managing the accounts team, and ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting and compliance. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage and mentor accounting staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Consolidate financial reports from subsidiaries or departments.
- Review and analyze budget variances, highlighting anomalies or discrepancies.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in preparing and monitoring annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
- Compile and analyze data for budgeting and planning.
- Track expenditures against budgets.
Month-end and Year-end Closing:
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of month-end closing activities.
- Perform reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
- Support audit preparations and manage auditor queries.
General Ledger Management:
- Review and approve journal entries.
- Ensure accuracy of ledger entries.
- Maintain accuracy in fixed asset records.
Internal Controls:
- Monitor compliance with internal financial controls and policies.
- Identify risks and propose appropriate mitigation measures.
- Contribute to creating and improving accounting processes and procedures.
Cash Flow Management:
- Assist with preparing cash flow statements and forecasts.
- Monitor bank balances and manage banking relationships.
- Review payables and receivables to optimize working capital management.
Tax and Regulatory Compliance:
- Assist in preparing and submitting timely tax filings (VAT, income tax, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.
Financial Analysis:
- Prepare financial analyses, including profitability and variance analyses.
- Assist management with cost-benefit analyses for strategic decisions.
Team Support and Development:
- Supervise and guide accounting team members.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior finance staff.
System and Process Improvements:
- Participate in the implementation and upgrades of financial software or ERP systems.
- Streamline and automate accounting processes for improved efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- An ACCA qualification will be considered an asset.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role.
- Experience with cloud-based accounting solutions and ERP systems strongly preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and analytical tools is essential.
