Mechanical Technical Designer

On Behalf of our client, Manpower is seeking to recruit a Mechanical Designer.

The role of a Mechanical Technical Designer specialising in fire protection systems, involves the comprehensive design of a cost-effective solution to meet clients requests while ensuring compliance with applicable Standards and ensuring co-ordination with other services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Project Design:

  • Organise a hand over session and ensure that the initial concept design is in line with clients expectations and industry standards.
  • Design systems for commercial and industrial purposes, ensuring designs align with system guidelines and project scope / BOQ.
  • Adhere to the quoted budget costs and aim to increase project profitability through valued engineering, create variation opportunities and upselling.
  • Address any financial and technical discrepancies with clients and request for variations when changes from the original scope of works arise.
  • Assist in all project aspects from inception to completion, including the updating of the contract BOQ with the approved drawings, value engineering, commissioning, and project documentation for designed systems.
  • Conduct site surveys and assessments to oversee the installation quality and ensure functionality of the designed and installed system.
  • Keep up to date with industry trends, technologies, and standards to ensure all systems are designed and installed using the latest technologies and best practices.
  • Liaising with commercial and projects teams and assist with any research and testing of new products prior to introducing any new products on the market.
  • Produce calculations and approvals compliant with industry Standards.

2. Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Develop and implement internal design guides, procedures, tools, and documents.
  • Plan, design, and cost engineer projects in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Co-ordinate office work, site surveys, and meetings, ensuring effective communication within the Design and Project Teams.
  • Continuously communicate with client and internally with all stakeholders, including project managers and design engineers when assigned on the job.

3. Planning and Workload Management:

  • Pre-plan jobs and deploy a prioritised work schedule with appropriate time deadlines, overseeing the commissioning process to ensure seamless system integration and functionality.
  • Be able to delegate works with other team members to meet clients targeted timelines.
  • Set, monitor, review work-load schedule, proactively communicating issues to the manager as they arise.
  • Maintain organised technical and non-technical documents, ensuring all engineering data is updated and easily accessible to all team members.
  • Anticipate and respond to design and schedule changes, ensuring seamless project execution.
  • Provide progress reports as directed by the Manager.

4. Quality Assurance and Compliance:

  • Coordinate the resolution of engineering design.
  • Ensure compliance with the Companys management policies and procedures (SOP).
  • Coordinate project designs with third parties and verify project documents for completeness and accuracy.
  • Ensure effective functionality of designed fire protection and security systems.
  • Attend and assist with LPCB Audits pertaining to LPS 1014, LPS 1204 and LPS 1148.

5. Team Development and Training:

  • Support, and coach the draughting team as may be required.
  • Provide overall direction to project teams, both technically and commercially.

Requirements:

  • Previous work experience in a similar role.
  • Preferably, in possession of a Diploma in engineering or any other field related to fire fighting systems.
  • Proven experience in designing fire protection systems for commercial and industrial purposes.
  • Ability to work independently, operating under minimal supervision.
  • Excellent time management skills and flexibility to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools and design methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to anticipate project challenges and proactively implement solutions.
  • Thorough understanding of industry standards, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in using AutoCad software.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken Maltese language.
  • In possession of a Maltese/EU Driving License.
